September was a very busy month for us. My baby turned 13! I now have a teenager. I feel like cars and college is just around the corner. Even with a birthday party and family in town we still managed to save plenty.
I made a birthday cake. My son had wanted a Minecraft birthday cake so we just made our own. It was our first attempt at fondant icing, but I think it turned out pretty good. Plus, we had a great time making it. It was way cheaper than having a cake made.
We printed all the party decorations instead of buying. Again, Minecraft stuff can be hard to find but we found some great free printables. My son had a great time getting them all ready for the party.
My husband and I installed a new window in our house. When we bought our first house we didn’t have much money. I knew we could have nice windows that we have installed or cheap windows that we paid someone to install. We have now installed over 20 windows in our different houses. It really saved us so much over the years.
I used the rebates that I earned at Menards to buy paint for my son’s bedroom. This made it almost free since we had already had the rebates. I think painting a room is one of the best ways to refresh a room on a budget. He was so happy to have a grownup room.
I made my own sprouting mung beans. This is so cool! I hadn’t ever done it before, however I stopped buying sprouts a couple years ago because of the cost. So I ordered some sprouting and mung beans from Amazon and did it myself. I hope to share the article soon.
I ordered coupons from ebay. My family loves the Mahatma Pilaf and Rice from Kroger, so I ordered twenty coupons. I paid $2 for $10 worth of savings and I know we will eat the rice.
I cleaned out our pantry. It had become a real mess. I didn’t have a great idea of what all we had in there and I was afraid that food would expire without being used. I then made sure to cook using the foods that were going to expire soon.
We knew we were going to take my son to the movies as a birthday present so we bought a Groupon instead of paying full price. It saved us over 50%.
How did you save in September?
