June was a busy month. I always think I am going to have so much time once school gets out. Sometimes I feel like summer is even busier! Even though we were so busy I managed to find ways to save.
1. I made Avocado Turkey Wraps ahead of time for busy nights. We have swim meets two nights a week for our neighborhood. They are so much fun, but eating dinner at them both nights can really add up. Instead I packed a cooler with some of my wraps. They are easy to eat when you are on the go, and cheaper than a burger.
2. We picked out books, movies, and books on cd at the library. These were great to listen to on our vacation, plus my son had books and movies for if he was bored. Much cheaper than buying the books or cd’s.
3. We turned off the air and opened the windows. This is a great way to save. The cooling bills can really add up during summer. Plus I love the smell of fresh air blowing through the house.
4. I cut back some trees near the house. I know this is such a small detail, but by cutting back the trees we have more sunlight coming in the windows. More sunlight means less lights on. Hopefully I saved some in leaving less lights on.
5. I stocked up on Mac & Cheese. It’s summer and we are eating so many lunches at home. It’s much easier to avoid the temptation of eating out if you have food it the house. I haven’t been doing lots of couponing, but I did get 15 boxes of Mac & Cheese for $2.25 total. That’s cheaper than 1 trip to McDonald’s.
6. I skipped the vacation trinkets. Maybe I am a bad mom, but I just don’t do the whole souvenir thing. My son has money, he can buy something himself if he wants a vacation souvenir. I love the memories, much better than an I love South Carolina mug. I also found plenty of ways to save on our vacation, too. You can see the 10 ways to save on a beach vacation here.
How did you save money in June? I would love to hear.
