May is such a busy month. My son finished up school so there were teacher presents to buy, homework projects to finish up, and finals. Beyond that, I was trying to get ready for the start of our neighborhood swim team. It is so much fun, but a lot of work. I still managed to save money in May.
1. I knew May was going to be crazy toward the end. With all of us rushing around I didn’t want to have to hit the drive thru. So I made a bunch of my Freezer Breakfast Burritos. They were easy to grab on those crazy mornings. Spending just a little bit of time helped save some money we would have used eating out.
2. I bought lots of produce at Aldi. I love all the produce that is in season right now. Instead of eating from our pantry we are enjoying fresh fruit and salads. They have had pineapples for $.89 each! Plus there have been some great free or cheap deals on salad dressing to use on the salads. They make a great dinner.
3. I came up with a cleaner that I can use on my floors so I don’t have to buy floor cleaners anymore. I have always heard how well vinegar cleans and for much cheaper, now that it smells like lemons I don’t mind using vinegar.
4. I borrowed some books from the library. Our library has a way to “check out” books on your Kindle, so I was able to do that. Much cheaper than buying the books. Plus my son has to read 30 pages a day for school so he found some books to read at the library.
5. I borrowed some games from my sister. We had relatives in town and I wanted some different games to play. My sister loaned my some of hers so I didn’t have to buy the games. I had wanted Bocce Ball and it was $40 at Menards, so borrowing saved me big time.
How did you save money in May?
