Oven Cleaning Paste

Jul 25 By Julie Sellers

My oven was so gross and dirty, I had cooked some Totino’s pizzas in it and they make such a mess. The next time I cooked in it I set the fire alarm off. I knew I needed to do something. My oven has a self cleaning mode, however it has a microwave above it and I have heard that using the self cleaning mode will ruin the microwave.

I also wanted to use something more natural. I don’t like the idea of spraying a bunch of chemicals in the oven and then cooking in it. So I looked around on some websites and found a couple different ideas I put together to clean it.

First I wiped it down really quick to get the loose crumbs out. I know, it is really gross.

Then I made up a paste to coat the oven in. I used 1/4 cup dish soap (I used green works), 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/4 hydrogen peroxide, and 1 tablespoon vinegar. I used a microfiber cloth to coat the oven in this mixture. You don’t need to scrub when you put it on, just wipe it on.

I then put a pot of water on the stove to boil. When it came to a boil I placed the pot in the oven and shut the door. I let it sit for 3 hours.

After 3 hours I removed the pot and used a microfiber cloth to wipe down the oven. You shouldn’t need to scrub at this point. I did need to wipe it down multiple times because it is very sudsy  from the soap. So much of the junk and gunk came off. I am not saying that it is perfect, but it looks so much than it did before.

I might even be able to see  in the oven door when I bake. 😉
