I have had a problem with white shirts getting yellow and dingy, especially in the armpit area. When I tried to bleach them they always became worse. I have tried lemon juice and soaking them in the sun, you name I thought I had tried it. But recently I came across this oxi-clean recipe here and decided I would give it a try.
It is wonderful! I had a couple of shirts that I wouldn’t wear anymore because of the staining. I mixed up the oxi-clean mixture and poured some over the stains. I left the shirts in my laundry room sink over night. The next day I washed them and the stains were much lighter. I soaked them one more night and the stains were gone.
I wish I had pictures, but it was impossible to see the yellowing in the shirts, so you will just have to trust me that it really works. 😉
Remember all the Hydrogen Peroxide that was free last week at Walgreens? I can use it to make the oxi-clean mixture. You need baking soda, water, and hydrogen peroxide.
Put 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1/2 cup baking soda, and 1 cup water in a bowl.
Mix it up and pour it in a container. I just pour it over the stains. You can keep it in a spray bottle, however I have found that it clogs too much. I prefer to just pour it on. Inexpensive and very effective. I love it. I have used it on colors without a problem, but I would definitely recommend testing in a inconspicuous area first.
